I want to share with you what I have been learning from my recent painting class that I have been attending. I always see these endeavors as life learning experiences. After attending the first class I became aware that it might be more of an intermediate level than beginning, but one of the students reminded me that you have to start somewhere.
It started out on a difficult note as the masking fluid that I was using slid out of my hands and landed on the floor literally soaking my coat, sweater, and purse! Masking fluid is much like rubber cement when it gets on something. So within a matter of minutes all of my clothing was covered with this sticky fluid that’s not so easy to remove.
That reminds me of how in life we let icky stuff attach to us and sometimes it can be quite difficult to shake it off. It can be from angry people that make comments that attack us leaving us feeling quite bruised emotionally. Or it might be we take on the emotional abuse from a spouse and we are left feeling hurt and resentful. We might have grown up with sexual abuse and felt like we somehow brought it on leaving us feeling tainted.
Spilling this masking fluid brought me to tears! I felt scared about entering this new area of learning and the accident added to that. One of the ladies assured me it would get better. She was very comforting and said everyone feels a little uneasy when starting something new, especially with others that were more experienced.
Lesson #1- We need to take responsibility to shed off the negativity we have taken on that is impacting how we feel and live out our life. The emotional clearing methods I have learned will help you to quickly shed off the gunk leaving you feeling much more peaceful and restoring your worth and value.
Lesson # 2 When trying something new don’t have too high expectations for yourself. A client once told me that she learned at a workshop she attended that everything worth doing is worth doing poorly. I had to step back and think about that a minute, but what I concluded from it was that it was worth taking the risk!
Lesson # 3 – Many times you learn by doing it wrong the first time. You can’t always seem to do it perfectly the first time.. that’s how we learn in life by doing it and then tweaking it next time around from what we learned.
I trust you can glean something that you can apply from these painting lessons and not take on the goo that others drip all over you.
