Many people ask me how do I get out of my own way and make my business or my relationships successful? Learning how to tame your gremlins can be crucial in achieving what you want and feeling like you are able to attract more success. There is indeed a gremlin in your head and he’s out to make you miserable. Left to do his thing, he’ll zap your health, foul up your relationships, ruin your disposition, dampen your creativity, hamper your productivity, drive you into low-down funks and wind you up into fits of anxiety.
Gremlins are the internal dialogue that brings out fears inside you and seduces you into negative thoughts about yourself or situations. It is the “shoulds” or “musts” that you have given loyalty to rather than what is really in your heart of hearts. Freeing yourself of this inner dialogue is the way to tame these gremlins and move your life forward.
Most people tell me it’s not so easy. I would agree with them if they don’t know how to gain more awareness within themselves. Self-Awareness allows you to pay attention to when it is happening within yourself… observing the inner conversation you may be having. Being very conscious of this internal dialogue can lead you to being able to support your feelings.
We have become a society that doesn’t allow ourselves to feel. Turn your focus inward to what you are feeling rather than buying into the voices of the gremlins. Learn to be more conscious with what you hear. Choose to let go of those old tapes rather than letting them accuse you of thoughts that don’t support you feeling good.
Tips on Taming Your Gremlins:
- Allow yourself to breathe deeply into more self-awareness of what’s inside.
- Watch for words you hear that are absolute such as “must always’ or “should every time.”
- Catch the mental story and listen for phrases such as, “if only I…”, or “what if…” “How could he/she/you/they…” ” I can’t stand…”
- Cut off the story you have conceived in your mind and just let yourself ride the feeling wave you are experiencing.
- Move head on into the feeling and allow it to get bigger until it gradually dissipates.
Once we get these inner gremlins out of the way, we can move into more positive feelings thus leading to a more fulfilled, successful life.
